Founder:

Hubbard was born in Tilden, Nebraska in 1911. He grew up in Montana. He taught that people should know that they are Spiritual and Immortal Beings. Hubbard wrote his book in 1950 entiltled “Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health”. Hubbard used this book to start his new religion in Los Angels in 1954. He died in 1986. Hubbard said he Ascended to Heaven twice. Famous converts to Scientology include film actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

Beliefs

There is a God, Supreme Being. There is a Soul, called Thetan. The soul needs be “Cleared” of harmful experiences called “Engrams”. An “E-Meter” is used to measure how much of your soul has been cleansed of past bad memories and their effects. Salvation is achieved when the soul has been completely purged of harmful things.

Criticisms:

People who do not like Scientology claim that it is a cult that financially defrauds and abuses its members, charging large mount of money for its spiritual services.
